Jairus “Jay lee” Huffaker is an international bassist with extensive experience as a live stage performing musician, studio session bassist, and bass teacher.

Jairus was born and raised in Newport News, Virginia, and has spent his entire life around music. He grew up going to church and listening to his older brother’s vinyls and cassette tapes, and he started vocally mimicking instruments at a young age before beginning to play the bass when he was 14 years old. Also, at age 14, Jairus joined a jazz band called the Young Razzcals Jazz Project and recorded two albums with the group as a young inspiring musician. During high school, Jairus played the classical upright bass, and he is also skilled at playing keyboard and guitar.

Jairus has been incredibly fortunate to study under Berklee graduates as well as jazz legends such as Richie Cole.  He has played in five-star venues and hotels all around the world in places like Bangkok, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City, and the UAE. Jairus has also recorded with international gospel, hip-hop, neo-soul, and pop artists. In addition to playing music, he has managed multiple bands as a highly ranked band leader, is an up and coming music producer, and offers bass lessons to students of all levels.
